    Adjust volume without losing fidelity?

I went through many discussions and still have some questions.
ReplayGain won't work for me as my player doesn't support the feature.

My intention is to lower the playback volume on many pop albums and raise the volume on one classical albums. The simple way seems to be using the volume normalise (I'm ok with changes to original data). But I hope not to lose fidelity so I plan to do the following DSPeffects:

Bit depth (to 24 bit with dithering) setting min 16 max 24 bit, apply dither triangle..
volume normalise fix amplification + or - 9db.

I end up with 24-bit files (large!).
Is this the right way? Advice much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Use:

Bit depth to 24 bit (no need for dither in increase bit depth)
Volume Normalize with ReplayGain based normalize selected on the volume normalize page.

Keep a copy of the original tracks (pre volume normalize)
