newbie question about setup, installing DSP effects, which are missing right now

    Hello--

I feel really stupid right now, and hope I don't feel even stupider after somebody answers this. I just installed the reference 14.3 trial version, and started following the set-up guide here http://www.dbpoweramp.com/cd-ripper-setup-guide.htm At basically the second step "Configuring DSP Effects" I have run into a problem already. First when I tried clicking on the "add dsp/action" button it told me I needed to install the DSP files, so I did that. But now when I click on the button, and then "add dsp effect," nothing appears in the pane, and I see "DSP requires power pack," but it is grayed out. I assumed I just need to re-start the program, but that didn't solve it. I've searched the forum for an answer and can't find anything. Do I need to purchase and register before this will work--which I plan on doing anyway if I can figure out how to use this program? If that isn't it, then what am I doing wrong?

    Help appreciated. Thank you.

Your trial 21 days has not activated, to do so you have to set your user account to 'Administrator' access rights, then install dBpoweramp again and you will get a 21 day trial.

Thanks for replying, Spoon (the Man). But now I do feel stupider. I uninstalled the program. Then I went to the previously downloaded install file, right-clicked on it, and selected "run as administrator." After re-installing, I ran the program normally and tried running as administrator. But I have the same result as before, "DSP requires Power Pack" is grayed out, and no effects are listed in the pane.

So apparently you meant for me to do something else when you said to "set your user account to 'Administrator' access rights"?

Run as adminstrator will not work, you have to go in the control panel, user accounts and set the account type to administrator, install, let it run the configuration program then after you close it, you can set the account back to standard user.

I am the only user account on the computer, and have (and always have had) administrative privileges. I just did go into control panel and verify this to be sure. So, there is some other problem. By the way, after it installs and I click on finish, what should I be seeing in terms of a configuration program running? Also to provide additional info, in program files/illustrate/dbpoweramp there is a folder called DSPs which is full of what appear to be the various applications extensions.

Look in dBpoweramp Configuration, does it say it is in Trial at the top?

Perhaps you loaded dBpoweramp sometime in the past? and the trial has been used up.

Voila! No, it does not say that. I think now you have me on the right track. I saw a downloaded install .exe file from last April. I did not think I had ever run it and installed the program, because I have never ripped anything to FLAC. But I must have done so, intending to give it a try. That would explain things.

So, should I just click on register and pay up? Or would it be better for me to uninstall everything, click on purchase, and do a clean install then?

And thanks for taking the time to get me out of this clueless state of affairs.

                Clean install is preferable
