remove dot / period from filenames without removing dot / period in extension?

Well, I suppose the title says it all.
I want to test any part of my path and filename for dots and remove them without also stripping dots from .mp3 or .flac

Mr. Artist/...This is my album/06 - Mr. Song ... two.flac
becomes
Mr Artist/This is my album/06 - Mr Song two.flac
