    Cd Volume Normalise

Does anyone know how you can normalise the playback volume of all the CD's as you rip them so you don't have to keep turning the volume up and down on playback. This is particularly prevalent on shuffle when each track tends to come from a different CD and its playback volume is different.

I have tried to use the DSP effect "volume normalise" on replaygain but this doesn't seem to have worked.

Volume Normalize does as you ask, you can try the adaptive normalize if ReplayGain is not giving the right volume for you.

Thanks, I get the impression from having ripped about 50 CD's that it only normalises the volume on the tracks on the CD at the time of ripping. i.e it does not compare each CD with all the others you have ripped and normalise the volume making sure all CD's are also at the same volume.

Any thoughts on this as this is the main problem?

ReplayGain tries to analyse the loudness of the recording, so a reference to other CDs is not required.

Spoon, Volume Normalise is not doing as you suggest and as I want it too, for example I have just ripped 2no. CD's straight after each other, Paul Simon greatest hits and then Fleetwood Mac greatest hits. Both were ripped with Volume Normalise DSP with the replaygain (track gain) option selected and when played back the resulting playback volumes required are vastly different. To achieve the same room volume from both the CD's once ripped the Fleetwood mac required approx 40% up on the volume control but to achieve the same when playing back the Paul Simon tracks selecting a similar type of song I needed 60% volume.

Obviously this is very annoying when played back on shuffle as some are way too loud and then the next track may go to the other extreme of being too quiet which is particularly annoying when playing as background music. Any suggestions how I can over come this?

Instead of ReplayGain select the 'Adaptive Normalize' option, as mentioned 2 posts back.
