    Convert & Rename Existing Files?

I have an existing folder structure for all my music, but within the individual album name folders the tracks do not all follow a single naming convention. In the course of converting APEs to FLAC I want to be able to keep my existing folder structure, and alter only the file names in the output.

    Example:

    Existing Folders: Music\Aretha Franklin\Aretha's Gold.

The track names inside the last folder look like this:

    Aretha Franklin - Aretha's Gold - (1969) - 03 - Respect

During the conversion I want the file names to look like this:

    03 - Respect

Without any changes to the folder structure.

I tried various things in the convert dialog, and either ended up with a real mess or with essentially the same file names converted to the right music format.

I recognize this is total noobish territory (and I feel pretty dumb), but I did read the Naming Scheme tutorial - I'm just having trouble making it work for me. If I can get this part of it down I'm buying a license on pay day (Wednesday), because this is hands down the best conversion software I have ever used, and I have an extensive music collection already on the computer and much more waiting to be ripped.

    All help appreciated.

Re: Convert & Rename Existing Files?

I've sorted some of this out. My own stupidity was partially to blame.

For existing FLACs I do not wish to convert to another format is there a way to rename an album's files without running a full file conversion (to the same format?)

Is there a way to do it without having to rely on tags?

You can use batch converter and exclude all flac files.

        Thanks for the reply.

I've worked a lot of the simpler stuff out.

In many cases, the FLAC files are not named as I want them to be. I've been using Tag From Filename as a way to parse the tags, then, in turn, use the tags to rename all the files in a particular album folder.

Thing is, in order to do this second part, I have to reconvert FLAC to FLAC to get the file naming structure I want. I get the feeling I am missing something.

Can Music converter access CDDB or something similar to rename files or tag untagged files?

There is a 'Arrange Audio' utility codec to rename the filename, but this will not retag the files.

            Thanks.

This is just the thing for the existing FLAC files.

Appreciate your help. With the right utility codecs installed plus the excellent audio format conversion capabilities, I'm getting my music collection where it needs to be (long overdue)

Do any of the utility codecs retrieve tagging information from online and apply it to files?

So that function (tagging from online source) is only available during CD Ripping?

It would be a handy feature to consider down the road, a way to retroactively batch tag (auto tag) existing files.

Thanks. And thanks for your patience. Very much appreciated.
