How can I convert au files to mp3

I found some old au files (leftover from a comp I had in 1999), and when I run the converter it won't detect the files. There is not even an option for selecting au files in the drop down. I searched Codec Central and there is not a Codec for au files listed. I did do a forum search and this was all I found:

The reply to the question was "Releasing one this week." and it is dated 12-30-2002.

If anyone would tell me how I can convert these old files to mp3's I would appreciate it.

There is no au codec for dbpoweramp.
