How to create same FLAC and MP3 folder names?

    Hi All,
I have ripped 500 CDs using multi-encoder using the default settings within a RipNAS Statement, running WHS + Asset 2.0 to produce
FLACs in folder \\ripNAS\Music on ripNAS\
    and MP3s in folder \\ripNAS\Public\mp3\

All CDs produce FLACs under identifiable foldernames, being the same as the CD title, but as I begin to rip more Various Artist CDs, I notice more MP3 rips being filed under Artist name: e.g. instead of say Best of Lounge Music (one title for one CD, with maybe 17 tracks), I get upto 17 new Artist folders, each containing their one track of Best of Lounge Music.

Following my nose through Settings, I fail to find where or how MP3s are treated differently. Forgive my beginner's confusion, but is the browse tree only used by the control point (e.g. Songbook on iTouch)? Browsing is separate in my mind - I will for sure soon like to see all tracks by an Artist, but first would like to feel more secure with the physical file locations!

I hear folk are batch converting FLAC into MP3 later, and wonder if that would produce a better result for me if the MP3s appeared in a parallel directory structure with identical folder names? - Indeed, I suspect there is no easy remedy now to get my MP3 folders to have the same names as my FLACs, short of batch converting the FLACs?

And where can I find browse tree structures discussed in any detail?

    Thanks in advance.

The path is set on the multi-encoder, but it is set to:

    d:\public\mp3\[artist]\[artist]\...

It would need replacing with the naming line from CD Ripper:

    Path to:

    d:\public\mp3\

    Naming as:

    [IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album]\[track] [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[artist] - [track][] - [title]

      Mmmm, in-terrr-ess-tink.....
Thanks Mr Spoon, but i really must hide that from granny!

Somewhat more on the case than before, I now see that I have:-

      In WHS' RipNAS module window,
In Encoder Settings [MultiEncoder] for mp3 (Fraunhofer IIS)
      Output Location
      Folder line is: d:\shares\public\mp3
Dynamic line is: [artist]\[album]\[artist] - [track] - [title]

*** what carnage would ensue by simply changing this to:
      \[album]\[artist] - [track] - [title] ??

      In Advanced Settings
      Rip Path line is: d:\Shares\Music
      Naming line is:-
      [MAXLENGTH]200,[IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album]\[track] [artist][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[artist] - [track][] - [title][]

which is identical to your suggestion apart from your lack of final square parantheses.

May I ask, where is this syntax, and indeed language explained please?
At the moment, i can only hazard a guess, or 2.

      Tks vm!

          Hi,

Is there any way to access the path or track name in the dynamic file naming?

I want to do the exact same thing as Avalon, except that all my files are not exactly put in folder corresponding to the tags (most of them are, but not all of them)

I just want to convert a flac file named "c:\f1\f2\flac\f3\name.flac" into "c:\f1\f2\mp3\f3\name.mp3".

I saw there are some functions that I could use:
          [TRIMFIRSTFOLDER]string[]
          [TRIMLASTFOLDER]string[]

But I don't know how to get path and filename...

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Re: How to create same FLAC and MP3 folder names?

It is tricky because flac and mp3 are in the middle. It is possible:

            [TRIMLASTFOLDER][TRIMLASTFOLDER][origpath][][]\mp3\[TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][origpath][][][]\[origfilename]

Possibly might work (I have not tried it)

Thanks, I'll try something like this.
It would have been easier with a search/replace function... but this should work anyway.

As my path to flac files are always the same, in my example the folders f1 & f2 are known (it's like C:\MyUserName\Music\Flac) so I can just trim the first 3 folders and put something like:
              'C:\MyUserName\mp3\[TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][origpath][][][]\[origfilename]'

I did not know the [origpath] and [origfilename] values.
Is there a place all the variables we can use are listed?

I don't see any reference to [origpath] and [origfilename] in your link.
Maybe there are other potentially interesting variables like this.

                      [TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][TRIMFIRSTFOLDER][origpath][][][]\[origfilename] works perfectly.
And all the field are explained when you press "SET" on the music converter...

Thanks for the support you give on these forums and for this wonderful software (I just bought my licence today, before I was still in trial).
All the functions (like dynamic file naming) makes me save a lot of time.
