Can I run xl1b without MCE?

I'm runnning XP but NOT MCE, I want to rip my CD collection with a Sony xl1b, I've tried but i can't get it to work so far. Is it possible to get batch ripper to do this? What am I doing wrong?

Yes you can, make sure:

Information: Disable "Removable Storage Service" if running in the services control panel, Stop it and change it from Automatic to Manual.
