I converted the second file by itself, that worked. Same local dirs.
So it's not Nero having the problem.

You are best not using encode local until you can figure out that is blocking the file writes, it is just an extra layer, it is un-needed.

All right, I think it' sorted out.
I rebooted the PC, not the NAS. Everything seems to be working as expected. I should have done this sooner. To save anyone else aggravation, I would suggest rebooting after installing codecs. Maybe that is in the docs somewhere but I missed it. Thanks for your help.

I think you guys may have a memory leak somewhere.
I started a massive conversion ~28K tracks, after about 10 hours it failed.
I restarted after unselecting the already completed albums and the second time it failed after 11 hours.

Otherwise it seems to be doing it's thing. It's just a pain to have to keep starting it over...

same thing we've been discussing, flac to m4a using:
Local Encode, Nero AAC codec 1.3.3.1 /-q 0.55 -lc
                to NAS Netgear NV+
On Dell dual core 2x2.13 GHz 2GB RAM Win XP

I'm doing run 3, it's 10.5 hours into it. I'll let you know what happens. If it does crap out, I can send you some stats if they're collected anywhere.

Install 'Process Explorer' from Microsoft, it will show memory usage of each process and the handle count.

It failed again, this time after 12 hours and 2729 files.
The handle count is in the 12K range when processing and 11.5K when not running.

Re: New User dont you just love us !!

11.5 hours into the 4th run I notice that there are local encode files piling up in the local encode work dir. 2 are actively being written to, ~10 are old from several hours ago. Maybe this was happening before but I didn't notice and the dir was cleaned out before the next run.

Either way, the total size of the tmp files is not enough to cause the machine to run out of memory. I'm wondering if the resultant music files are not complete or are otherwise corrupt.

AudioShell does give me details on which files the tmp files were from, I'll check a few to see if they seem ok.

Just thought I'd mention this. If there was a log, maybe it would indicate why those conversions did not complete normally and clean up after themselves.

interestingly, all the files are from the same Dick's Picks disc, tracks 2-8.
May be related to album art? I can see the art in Audioshell but iTunes not showing it. China Cat sounds fine.
