How do I rip to AAC?

It should be simple but I just don't see it.

I downloaded and installed the AAC and Apple Lossless codec (dBpoweramp-Codec-m4a.exe). But how do I to enable AAC ripping? When I look into the "Rip to" drop-down box I get:
    • Apple Lossless
    • m4a Nero (AAC)
    • mp3 (Lame)
    • Test Conversion
    • Wave
    • - some more greyed out options -

There is the 'Nero' option but then I need an additional download and I thought the 'm4a' codec could encode AAC anyway. (Apple Lossless works)

    What am I missing?

    PS
I'm running dBpoweramp in Linux via WINE.

I strongly suggest going ahead and downloading the external Nero core AAC encoder (please follow the instructions carefully) as it is really the very best quality option available.

You need the Nero .exe files to encode m4a/AAC. Also, the codec you installed encodes m4a but only decodes aac files. You need the separate AAC encoder from here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central-m4a.htm

Re: How do I rip to AAC?

Just to summarize for posterity. If I want AAC files I have these 2 options:
        1. Directly, via the Nero encoder; or
        2. Indirectly, via the m4a encoder to Apple Lossless and then via the utility to AAC.

Maybe you want to clarify your documentation pages a bit.

Thank you for the swift response.

Correct, but why do #2 when you can directly encode to AAC?
