How do I add alternative file extensions?

I have a bunch of old Mpeg1Layer2 -files that are encoded with the old Digigram PCX driver and have the extension .pcx. It should be valid mp2, but the Batch Converter doesn't recognize them as audio files. I have associated the pcx -extension with Music Converter in windows explorer options, but that didn't help. Is it possible to add new file extensions in the dBpoweramp file filter and associate them with the codec?

rename *.pcx *.mp2 (from a dos prompt)

Thanks, I was thinking too complicated again.

12 songs in less than 2 minutes from mp2 to mp3 is not bad at all - although I still have some 14.000 files to convert...
