Batch DSP process, but keep file format the same

I found this software recently and love it's ability to batch process.

I want to normalise all my audio files and run a check for silence at beginning and end. However these files are differing formats (bit rates mainly). So although most are mp3, some are encoded at 128kbps, some at 192, 256 etc.

Is it possible to batch run a DSP like the normalise and remove silence ones, but get it to save to the original file format and bit rate? I can only get it to save to a pre-set bit rate. If you catch my drift, I don't want to waste disc space by re-encoding my 128kbps files to 256, or waste quality by re-encoding my 256 files to 128 !! I want it to leave them all as they are pre-processing.

No, but you can use 'Batch Converter' and switch on the bitrate column (if you list files), then just check the files (for conversion) of a certain bitrate.

Thanks for the tip - that will be an acceptable work-around,

Seems like a bit of an omission - I probably ought to suggest it as a feature request...

We do not like to encourage such, as converting 192Kbps >> 192kbps looses quality. Converting 192Kbps to 320kbps (as daft as it sounds) would loose less quality, but the end 320kbps file would not be '320Kbps' quality but a little less than 192kbps.

I totally agree with you about progressive coding degradation, however I took the view that having normalised files and removing silence from start and end added more perceived "quality" than I lose with re-coding the music. I know AGC's and audio processing can alleviate different volume levels, but on the transitions they sometimes still struggle. Also, we use Zara, and I think it will sound "tighter" with silences removed from tracks.
