WMP 11-DPAMP tag problem for albums

I am ripping all my CDs in flac as part of effort to centralize all my music on an NAS and distribute via Sonos or Squeezebox. I was also planning to use WMD 11 as my server software (Unless I can use something like poweramp).

However, albums do not show up as albums in WMP11 after I rip CDs using the default DBpoweramp tagline. Instead, everything shows up as individual songs under "unknown" or "unknown artist". Foobar also has trouble reading, but Winamp seems to find the albums just fine.

I've spent a few hours scouring this site and the web to figure out why this is happening, but no luck so far. I am not exactly a novice at this stuff, so it's very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Also: I have a large classical collection, with many CDs that have compilations of different composers. I would love to get a copy of someone's tag setup in DB's CD Ripper, if anyone would be so kind.

Which audio file type are you ripping to?

I am ripping regular store-bought CDs, which I assume are WAV or PCM, with the latest version of DBPoweramp. I am converting the files to FLAC and trying to find them in the WMP 11 library.

The tag default I am using in the Naming box is:

      [IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][]\[track] [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][]\[album]\[artist] - [album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][] - [track] - [title][]

Hold the mouse over one of the flac files, dBpoweramp will show which tags are contained within.

Note to get WMP to play flac, you will have had to install a directshow filter, that might not support FLAC id tags. If using WMP only then Windows Media Audio Lossless might be a better choice, convert your flac files to WMA lossless.

I knew if I kept plugging away, I’d figure it out, but thanks much for your help, Spoon. I hated to ask in the first place. It was getting frustrating. Sorry to waste a bit of your time.

Here is the solution in case others have the problem.

WMP11, as you know, requires a DirectShow plug-in to play FLAC files. When I looked at the Microsoft web site, I did not notice another plug-in, called WMP Tag Support Extender.

The WMP Tag Support Extender plug-in, linked below, reads the tags correctly and shows albums as normal in WMP’s window.

Find help and how-to articles for Windows operating systems. Get support for Windows and learn about installation, updates, privacy, security and more.

By the way, spoon, is there something on this site I can read to figure out how to craft my own File Naming (for classical music). I can figure it out myself with a primer.

Basically, I want whole classical albums to play in their entirety, if I click on one. But I also want each individual piece from the same composer or from different composers on the same album to be available to play separately.

            See:

At the request of multiple users, I am writing a short tutorial on how to use the naming scheme in dMC r12. The basics of the naming scheme are simple to get: [artist] - use for the artist name [album artist] - use for the album artist, NOT the same as artist necessarily [album] - use for the album title [title] -

Perhaps I should start a new thread but my question is similar.

What parameter should I use to get proper tagging for WMP10/11? I will not be using FLAC, mostly WAV files ripped from CD.

After much experimentation WMP does not have tags that work in MCE2005.

Regarding file names you don't really need to worry about this too much because most decent media servers/players will be able to present your tracks grouped in to Albums/Artists/Year/Genre/whatever according to the metadata in the files, so the view that you get when you browse your music collection isn't tied to the file names that you chose.
