How do I make my first post?

First, thanks for the program. I have been using it for... well, since it came out pretty much. I don't use it as much as I used to anymore (no offense), because I have pretty much ripped everything I have ever wanted or needed. I need it about every four months. That's where the pretty much part comes in.

Second, I noticed that I use the words pretty much too often.

Here's the thing, beyond the joking around, I can't figure out how to make all of my lettering in lower case. I have always been anal about the first letter being in upper case ever since I started using computers. Why does it have to be that way? Anyways, all of my cd's and folders on my whole computer are like this. Well, except for windows. I used a program called lupus rename to rename everything. I used to get pissed that everything would rip everything with so much crud on it. I don't care for the album's artist in the track title. I would have to be pretty stupid to not know who's song it was since I just opened the folder.

I have tried many different combinations, but first let me show you an example of what I am trying to accomplish.

I tried following your guide, but it didn't seem to get at where to put the [LOWER] part.

I first just tried

[LOWER][album artist] - [album] [year]\[track] - [title][]

, but that just gave me...

- dance with me 1981\11 - dance with me.mp3.

Well, that sucked. So, I tried putting [LOWER] into different parts of the default settings with weird random results.

Can you help please?

edit, I did get it to the right setup of the order I want of...

which did take a little messing around with,

But I got that, so what's up with the [LOWER].

Instead of [album artist], try [IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][], so that if there is no value for album artist, which it looks like there isn't, it will use artist.
If you put [LOWER] at the start and [] at the end, does it work right?

I am totally confused at what you are trying to say. I am totally new to this string thing. I am only testing things, and am surprised I got the file and naming to work write. It was totally by accident.

HA HA, I can't believe I got that. The double brackets of everything totally threw me off, and you wanting me to just replace that one instance instead of getting rid of the various artist part threw me off. I can't believe that I have no idea what those values, brackets, words, or anything does, but it was pretty simple with your help.

I go to every other website for help. I am a screen printer that deals with Illustrator, Photoshop, do some downloading of flash to convert to dvd, and all kinds of other stuff. I have never been to some site like this that has been so helpful in seconds. Usually, I know Illustrator like the back of my hand, yet I get "Don't use it, if you don't know it", and stuff like that. Cocky idiots that don't help. Thanks man. People tell me about other rippers, and I never really cared. I am the computer master for a lot of systems, and I will not let anyone use anything else just because of this help. I rebuild on a constant basis, many systems, and I recommend many computer hacks (not programs, don't get me wrong. I am against that morally.), tweaks, and programs to make things faster and simple for people. This is now on the top list for music rippers.

So the final string (I guess you would call it?) is...

[LOWER][IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],artist[],Various Artists[]\[album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][]\[track] [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][] - [album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][] [year]\[track] - [title][][]

Is there a way to simplify it?

Also, have you ever thought of starting a thread of people's different "string's" , so people could come in and copy and paste it. Might not be a bad idea.

Like a title of their post title would be their setup, and then the post would be the settings like I put above.

Title of post

Title\Album\Track\

Post would be

[IFVALUE]album artist,blah, blah, blah..

I think you made a typo by putting [IFVALUE]album artist,[IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],artist[],Various Artists[] in there. If so, use this instead:
[LOWER][IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,Various Artists[]\[album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][]\[track] [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][] - [album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][] [year]\[track] - [title][][]

Well, it worked anyways. Not to harsh words, but I was surprised. What I guess I'm trying to say, is this seems so confusing, yet it is totally forgiving. I'll try your edit right now. I'm totally busy, but this is totally interesting to me.

Actually, I made a typo also. Try this:
[LOWER][IFCOMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[]\[album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][]\[track] [artist] - [title][][IF!COMP][IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],[artist][] - [album][IFMULTI] Disc [disc][] [year]\[track] - [title][][]

Typo was I didn't have [IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],Various Artists[] but had [IFVALUE]album artist,Various Artists[] which lacks what is done if the statement is false.

As for less errors, it does make some sense, as this is what seemed to be messed up: [IFVALUE]album artist,[IFVALUE]album artist,[album artist],artist[],Various Artists[]
Which means, if album artist exists, it takes the first choice in both, so the second nested choice (artist) can never be reached. Additionally, "artist" wasn't in brackets and as such was used as text and no an element. However, this is moot as it was never reached. Make sure you play with the tick boxes and make sure it looks correct.

Both versions of what I had and you gave me works. I'm just getting back to this right now, but it has been working with the other one you gave me just fine.

The last two formats seemed to work just fine, but I'll keep the last one you gave me. You know this stuff obviously way better than I could ever.
