Compatibility with WMP 11

I'm a new user to dBpoweramp and this has probably been answered before, but I can't find it in the forums. Basically, I have been able to rip wav files to the proper folders (per explorer), but when I use Windows Media Player 11 (Vista64 Home OS), the track numbers are all "0" and the tracks are listed alphabetically. This is unacceptable for playback and/or burning as it changes the order of the songs in the album. I'd use the dBpoweramp burner and player, but think it is a pain to have to load a prior version.

If possible, please provide any other way to make my dBpoweramp rips WMP 11 compatible. Thanks.

WMP cannot read the Wave ID Tags, not many programs can. You are best to rip to WMA Lossless.

Thanks for the reply, Spoon. I had done some additional research (ain't google great?) and found out about the lack of tags in WAV. This surprised me since WMP 11 seems to be able to find cover art, keep track numbers, etc. when ripping to WAV... hmmm?

Anyway, based on my research and your advice, I am planning on ripping using a lossless format in order to retain the tags and save some disc space. Is there a reason you suggested WMA lossless over FLAC? And before I give up on WAV, are there any disadvantages to using one of the lossless formats versus WAV?

Please note that I have about 2,200 CDs and plan on ripping them to a NAS for playback on the slim devices transporter. Please note that I don't have the NAS or transporter yet - they have been ordered - so I don't have slimserver running as yet. I'm just trying to figure this out beforehand to get a head start on the ripping!

Spoon suggested WMA Lossless as it works great in WMP without having to install additional third-party applications as would be required with FLAC.

Both dBpowerAMP's CD Ripper and WMP will download the album information/art for any CD that you insert in to your drive. However the format which you rip to will determine whether or not that information gets written as a tag.
