How do I convert a cda file to mp3?

The cda file I want to convert is not recognized as an audio file. This is a "home-made" cd. Has something been forgotten in the process?

The CD is an audio CD, correct? Will it play in a CD player?

Yes, the CD plays normally on CD players. Some older players bug a little bit, but in general these CDs work OK.

How are you trying to convert the cda file?

Are you using the CD Ripper to convert the audio tracks to MP3 or right-clicking on the cda files after opening the CD contents in Windows Explorer?

Use the CD Ripper and report any error messages here.

Re: How do I convert a cda file to mp3?

Before I first posted this question, I had tried converting by right-clicking on the cda files in Windows Explorer.

I tried using the CD Ripper as you suggest, but that didn't work either.
The first time, I got a runtime error, and the program closed. I tried reopening it, but that failed too.

This time, I got a CDGrab.exe - Application error, saying something like (I'm translating from French): The application could not initialize correctly (0xc000012d). Click OK to terminate the application.

It's beginning to look as if my application is defective...

            Try this:

...also how to do a full reset of dBpoweramp? (if dBpoweramp crashes for some reason) Where does dBpoweramp save its files / settings? It is installed to c:\Program Files\Illustrate\dBpoweramp or c:\Program Files (x86)\Illustrate\dBpoweramp The 64 bit version of dBpoweramp is installed to: c:\Program Files\dBpoweramp It

            then reinstall.

Re: How do I convert a cda file to mp3?

              Hi, Spoon!

I tried what you said: uninstalling, rebooting, then removing the little bits and pieces left with your online routine. Then, I reinstalled by registered version of dBPoweramp stored in my C:/Download directory.

I then tried ripping my CD to the mp3 format, and I got the same error messages as last night:

The first, a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library error message:
              Program C:/Program files/Illustrate/dBPoweramp*CDGrab.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

The second, a CDGrab.exe - Application error, saying something like (I'm translating from French): The application could not initialize correctly (0xc000012d). Click OK to terminate the application.

This is getting to be an exercise in frustration. Tell me the truth, doctor; is my application terminally ill? or is it my computer, an oldy I must admit ?

There is a debug mode which should help, make sure you have R12.3 installed, then run dBpoweramp Configuration and for music converter tab select the debug option (at the end), then start CD Ripper and post the results (from the popup text file after the crash).

So it crashes when you click Rip?

can you try a normal audio cd (insead of a cd with 1 track 1 hour long) as a test.

Yup! it works. I tried ripping an 8-minute track from The Last Samurai, and it worked.

                      So what's up, doc?

I'd say not that one CD, but all of the CDs made here at the Ashram. I noticed something that might give you a clue. When I insert the CD in the reader, and dBpoweramp check accuraterip, I guess to get information about the "artist" and everything, it comes up with something that has nothing to do with the CD:

Album : Feynman Lectures on Physics Vol 5 Energy & Motion (3 of 6)
                          Disc : 1/1

                          Track : 1
                          Title : Volume 1, Chapter 9 - Newton's Laws of Dynamics
                          Length : 52:43
                          Rating : 0
                          Genre : Spoken Word

And even more surprising, it comes up with this info for ALL our CDs!
Is it something that was read at one point by the software our Guru is using to record the CDs, and the info is kept somewhere unnoticed?
I dunno, but this could be causing the bug, couldn't it?

It is not surprising the meta dta is wrong, as there is only 1 track there is not much to match with (think of identifying somones face only using one eye).

I don't really care about the meta-data. Our Guru cannot be found in any data bank anyway.

So back to my initial question: How do I convert these CDs in MP3 ???

Are you giving up on me?
