Basically you are asking about whether, if you take a PS2 game disc that mostly does not work, you can make a copy of it and use that on your play station.

As an idea that has two big drawbacks. First is that the disc itself does not play reliably. So there is no reason to suspect that if you could make a perfect copy of the disc that it would be any better. If you had a cd which was messed up, you certainly wouldn't expect to be able to burn a copy of the cd and have it play right.

Second, I very strongly suspect that there are system formatting problems that would interfere with your being able to use a PC to copy a PS2 disc. PC's and PS2 games essentially speak different languages. Unless you are into programming on a fairly advanced level I don't think you can do it. On top of this, I would be pretty sure that most video games (like all commercial dvd's and some cd's) have various copy-protection features built-in to frustrate the copying of the contents of the disc.

There used to be software that could assist with this process (although it could only help you make back-up copies of games meaning if the original disc was messed up you would be out of luck). But I believe these programs (the commercially available versions anyway) have been sued out of existence because, as has been pointed out, the law on video games (I'm pretty sure) and dvd's (I am positive on this) is essentially that it is illegal to help you make copies of these even if they are back-up copies of games or dvd's that you already own and even if you only ever use them for your own personal use (since there is no reliable way to prevent you from using this power illegitimately). This is a strong attack on the old "Fair Use" doctrine. Even CD distributers are trying to reduce existing "Fair Use" rights.

If you own an original copy that does not work then contact the manufacturer and ask them to replace it. They should do it IFF you have the original copy and it's damaged, provided you send it to them first.

anyway this forums are not by far related to PS games, or any games for that mater, if we aren't talking about converting music from it or similar... there are many forums online specialized for games, disks, recording, copying damaged disks etc... try google...

i don't remember the name of the software but many years ago when PS1 first came out it was easy to use your PC to copy PS1 games. you just had to make sure you used the blue blank cd's. in fact it was commonly used cd copying software that even had the option in the menu for PS games copy.

of course you then also needed a moded PS1 unit. also you could play Ps1 games on your PC using an emulator.

but what they do now? i have no idea.

well here in Australia it is perfectly legal to play warez games on a modded PS2. Sony was defeated in the high courts by a PS2 modder eddie stevens.

it is still illegal to share warez but not illegal to mod your PS2 to play any game on it.
