    Sony MD Walkman MZ-NHF800

    I want to say "Thank You" to all that may view this and attempt to help an old guy (60) with a problem. I just purchased a Sony MD Walkman MZ-NHF800 to be able to record our small group of guitarists as we practice. When I checked into this I was told by Sony that I could do this with no problem, I told them I wanted to be able to record them download to my computer and burn a copy to a CD so each one of us would have a copy to use in their cd players.
    Well, I guess you all know this already, but it doesn't work. This thing makes a .oma file that I can't seem to get it to do anything. I try to burn a CD and all I can burn is something called an Atrac. I did that and I can't get that to play in anything????
    Can you help and tell me exactly what I need to do. I heve been reading a lot on this forum but a lot of it is tough reading for someone who isn't that computer savy. Will one of the db programs work for me? If so which one and how do I use it.
    Again I "Thank You" for taking your time to assist me.
    Phil

    Re: Sony MD Walkman MZ-NHF800

    Not having an MD player and having no desire to mess with this, I can only refer you to a variety of strategies that forum participants have recommended:

    1. Try Sony's WAV Conversion Tool available here: http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/walkmanmc/wav.html (This does look like it is particularly tailored to your needs);

    2. Try using Audiograbber with an Atrac plug-in to convert your files. You will need these two programs (installed in the order they are listed):

    These should allow you to convert your tracks at least to WAV and then you should be able to convert to any other format you desire;

    3. Reportedly you can use a program called Tempgenc to do this. It is available here:

    This would appear to convert directly to mp3 format, if I understand this corectly;

    4. If you can play your recorded tracks on your MD Walkman, you can connect the line output (as would be used to feed signals to speakers, headphone outlet will not work nearly as well) to your sound card's line input to record your tracks using dMC (dBpowerAMP Music Converter) Auxilary Input. Instructions for this procedure can be found here: http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=5362 (which is in the FAQ Forum for dMC).

    Which ever method you use, for best quality you will want to convert/record your files to wav and then burn them to CD (since this is your plan for these tracks).

    Please let us know what you try and how it works out. There are many frustrated MiniDisk owners out there who are looking for solutions to these same problems.

    Good luck and best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

    Thanks to Oli for the first suggestion, Nesjo (I believe) for the second suggestion, Tekomni for the third, and Razgo and ChristinaS. for the fourth.
