    MP3 Splitter?

Anyone know (recommend) one? Prefer a "freeby" if it works.

I finally got all my cassettes converted to mp3. It was easier to just do a
complete side rather than messing with those tape meters.
Should be much easier to split them up since i have them in the PC now.

    thank you,

How about MP3 Splitter? Try running a search in Google.

Not sure whether it is free or not as I am currently at work and websites with certain references (e.g. mp3) are blocked.

That would be a candidate for dMC Auxiliary Inout with auto Start and End (maybe, if the gaps in between songs are long enough and really quiet, otherwise manual).

Otherwise the program Audacity from http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/...1-1-4-12.shtml may work for you and may be easier to use.

        Re: MP3 Splitter?

Google gives pages and pages of mp3 splitter - went through about 15 pages
        and found none free yet.

I can do it with AUX converter was just hoping an easier way was available.
Aux requires constant attention but it is do-able. Since i'm trying to split some
cassettes into stand-alone music files, i'm not sure how "quiet" it would be.
Would be a welcome addition to AUX converter if a start time and end time
        could be used.

        thanks,

Audacity is supposed to be free!

In dMC Auxiliary Input you can tinker with Start and End values and track legths, but of course you must first listen to your entire file and determine the precise spots - a minor/major pain I find

I've been doing some tape transfers myself lately. Audacity is excellent for this purpose and is free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/windows.php

It also has a lot of nice effects and some tutorials to help you along.
Just beware to set up the bitrate that you desire in the preference section first as it defaults at 128Kbps.
            Hope this is helpful.

              Craze,

              Thanks, I'll try it.
              I'm pulling the Stable version.
Do i also need the lame library?

              thanks again,

                Craze,
                Ok, Got it.
One question - where do you set the bit-rate?
I looked in the preferences but dont see it and youre right, the first one did
                come out as 128kb.

                thanks,

Now that I am at home I discover that the program I really meant was MP3 Direct Cut which can be downloaded from here http://www.mpesch3.de/

                      Thanks, Wayne,
                      I'll try it also.
Will have to be pretty fast to beat audacity.

Got that straightened out. So far, so good.

Think i prefer audacity over the other one. I'm no ex-spurt yet but for what i
wanted it does the job quite well.

                          thanks, guys/gals,
