    forum cookie time out

i changed the cookie timeout to 30 days to see if that helps everyone when reading new posts. because of the way vbulletin forum works the cookie is kind of time stamped. so the moment you log in your cookie is timed which means if you don't get to read all post withinn the default 900 sec/s and log out and come back next day all posts will be marked as read.

so we see how a 30 day 2592000 sec/s timout cookie goes. this means if you have an unread post after 30 days it will be marked as read. hopefully this will work out fine.

    Re: forum cookie time out

It looks like this evening the number of users ahs been escalating and new posts are not being cleared after I have read them.
    Is this just me?
Could it be related to the forum cookie change?

    Best wishes,
    Bill Mikkelsen

No, it's probably the cookie time-out thing.

i "think" think being the operative word, that when you read a post it will remain as highlited as read for 30days, but posts you haven't read should still have that open envelope icon.

however if you are sure you have read all you want to read and want to clear it all, at the bottom of the page is "mark all forums read" and that should clear the lot as well as all new posts if there were any.

          Re: forum cookie time out

i have changed it back to default 900 sec/s for now as something spastic happened. happened on my forum too where too many users were online.

          "Time-Out for Cookie
This is the time in seconds that a user must remain inactive before any unread posts are marked read. This setting also controls how long a user will remain on Who's Online after their last activity."

the above is what the setting says. so i guess the number of users online would mutiply, i dunno.
