THE MAKERS of the free open source browser Firefox are expected to release version 1.0 today.
Although it will technically be a preview release, with the full 1.0 version hitting the web in about a month's time, passing the version one is a bit of a milestone for the browser.
Asa Dotzler, the Mozilla Foundation's community quality advocate, wrote in a Web log over the weekend that he was just jacking in some final changes and once these were tested they'll become the official Firefox 1.0 Preview Release builds on Tuesday morning.
Firefox has done quite well for a browser that which was originally designed because people thought the Mozilla browser was bloated. It's light profile, free price and the fact it competes with Vole's Internet Explorer have won it a lot of fans.
