Know any Good Free Virus Scanners?

My friend needs a free virus scanner. Any recommendations? What do the people here use?

AntiVir - what i use now so u should use it too.

dont use avg its a horrible antivirus, u can get viruses easily through it and AntiVir has a very very good resident protector. Though if your friend is computer inept i dont think he should use antivir, www.avast.com <-- use that instead although it has bad virus bulletin ratings.

Right now I use Norton,It's given me good protection, but has a tendency to mess with my system which I don't like. My licence will expire in a few months. I will probably switch to a different program. I'm currently looking into a program called NOD32 Anti- virus system. I should add NOD32 is not free.
