Hi all - question...

I have a cd (no copyright protection) that I have ripped before to make copies. One problem is that the sound is a little low (i.e. - quiet)

I used mp3gain to try and raise the volume for all tracks. Most are already at 94-95 db's. If I push to 98 or greater, the mp3's sound much louder, which is good!
HOWEVER...once I burn them to cd, pops and cracks in the sound galore! So obviously something must be happening during the burn process, because the mp3's as is on my hard drive are fine. I am using MusicMatch to burn.

I'd advise you to always rip a cd to .wav rather than mp3, since mp3 is a lossy format and you'd be losing quality right away. You can then convert the .wav files to anything else and you can always normalize the volume when doing so. When burning another cd, use the .wav files to make an audio cd. It probably doesn't matter which cd burning program you use, but you could try dbpoweramp's Cd Writer.

Actually it IS an audio cd (as opposed to an mp3 cd), so I should have mentioned that...

But I found the problem. MusicMatch has its own "Volume Leveling", which I realized was still active and so disabled it. When I did this (and re-cut at 99 db's), pops and cracks are gone!
