    Live Streaming

just thought i would get a general consenses on how much people are using live streaming now. i use it more and more now only because i like to buy music online which means i like to do a lot of pre listning to a track before i purchase.

and since buying music online is becoming more and more popular i thought a poll might reflect that?

I forgot to ask: is this poll meant for listening to internet streams (which I thought it was) or for broadcasting with dbpowerAMP (with a Shoutcast plugin and server or based on RTSP)?

            Re: Live Streaming

I think the ability to listen to internet streams (HTTP or RTSP) will be interesting for more users in the future when broadband access is more widespread. In my opinion it's very attractive to listen to radio stations that only play your favorite music as opposed to the usual Top 20 stations on FM.

And broadcasting with an own station is of course very interesting, too, if the favorite software supports it almost out of the box like e.g. Winamp with Shoutcast DSP plugin and server.

don't forget it is widely used for "auxiliary input" to record off the net also. for those hard to get tracks :D

well the poll is seven months old :D , and i just walked up the street to my neighbours house about 3 houses away across the street with my laptop on wi-fi to see if i could still get an internet connection. YES!! , not a good connection but none the less a connection which means they could stream music off my PC and also browse the internet for free. as my ISP allows 12GIG per month and i only use maybe half that, so plenty left over.

Any news on adding support for streaming?

I run an Internet radio station, and dbpowerAMP looks it might become my new player if it supported streaming.

                          cheers

                            Re: Live Streaming

Hey, bringing up relatively old thread.

In general, I've always lived needing to 'pick the next song,' to queue up whatever seemed appropriate five seconds before the previous one ended. Very recent months I've discovered the full potential of streaming radio; man, there's some fantastic material being offered out there. di.fm was my portal (digitally imported -- http://di.fm), the goa/psytrance channel, PLEASE try it, I certainly didn't regret it. But for serious, streaming radio in all aspects, even as a culture, has been developing really quickly, and dAP should certainly try to catch up. _All_ modern standard audio players support it. I'm so partial to dAP, but I've actually not been using it much lately for this reason. I've no idea in the least on what magnitude implementing shoutcast or similiar in dAP lives, though it's high on my wishlist for certain -- thanks!

same, this would have to be the main reason i'm using winamp over DAP atm.

seriously can't wait for this in DAP! :D
