    Tape Hiss

After I recorded songs off of a cassette, I noticed that there was a lot of hissing in the background. I was wondering if there was a way to remove it, or make it less noticable.

    Re: Tape Hiss

I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to remove hiss and pops, but that is a $600 professional sound program. I don't know of any free prgrams, but there are of ton of programs you can buy which will help you, such as Soundforge or Wavelab. I've also heard say of one called "Roxio's Spin Doctor". I don't think Spoon as developed any DSP's which will automatically filter the Hiss out during conversion. You might ought to check with the free sound editor Audacity and see if it will remove the hiss. Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
    Good Luck!
