wi - fi and dap and dmc

anyone using wi-fi across a network with dap?

i want to put my desktop pc in another room and just use my laptop as my main use. but i want to be able to wi-fi music from laptop to the other pc and burn and rip as well all from my laptop in the lounge room.

will this work? i underswtand signal strength will weaken going through walls. so i guess a good strong system.

I don't believe I would trust ripping and burning over wi-fi - the throughput may be there, but it can be intermittent beyond the buffer size of a cd burner. I know there's BurnProof etc, but I would limit my use to ripping to hard drives, then moving files to a shared area on the other machine, and burning only from hard drive to burner on the same box.

Of course, you could alway bring the ripped music back to play it locally, especially if it is compressed. You might get some audible effects, but that's ok as long as your recordings would be intact.

You might also have issues with passers by - I'd make certain that my security was up to snuff, otherwise neighborhood kids could claim you were distributing music without a license, and sic the local version of the RIAA on you - no good!

thanks. i meant control it all from my laptop. what i mean is i would have dmc installed on the remote pc but operate it from my laptop. so essentially i would only be giving commands from my laptop to the pc.

know what i mean? i just log into the pc from the laptop. thats what i am trying to say.

but yes i would then only use the laptop to transfer music back and forth to play locally on my laptop.

well i now have a wi fi setup, but do you think i can get my laptop to connect to it? my desktop pc will connect no probs. bith running win98se.

on the laptop i can get a link connection signal if i use the USB wi fi connection but still cant access the router to set things up. but the pcmcia card refuses to connect a signal at all to the router.

          not sure why though.

is XP easier to set up a network? i can access the router if i connect the laptop to the router using rj45. but then it's not wireless

              update:

i have had some success. i can now access the internet and my pc all via my wi-fi setup

however i have to connect my laptop to the router via rj45 cable which defeats the purpose in the first place. if it was my pc that needed the rj45 connected to router then that wouldn't be so bad. it's my laptop i am trying to free from cables.

so why my desktop pc can find the internet and my laptop without any cables using only a USB wi-fi connector i am buggered if i know. both systems are using win98se.

my desktop pc is now in another room. i am transmitting through 2 walls but only about 3 metres away from the USB wi-fi connector which is on the end of a 3 meter USB extension cord :D i am getting 100%signal and connectivity strength.
