    Firmware Flashing

Hey, does anyone out there know a lot about firmware flashing, and the problems that can arise after? I had had tremendous success with both official and third party firmware updates in the past, but a recent update on one of my drives recomended by some people whose judgement I tended to trust has left me with a curious situation. The drive is neither dead, nor fully functional... it now reads Audio CDs as good or even better than before, but it can not see DVDs or Data CDs. I tried everything I could think of... including rolling back the firmware to the last working version, uninstalling one or both of the DVD drives on the system & rebooting, messing with the registry, and using system restore. (It is a DELL installed Samsung SD-616T & I was bumping it up from F310 to F311) Another funny thing is that Nero's Info Tool shows the drives in the wrong order now (the DVD rom drive with the problem was my D: and the DVD +RW was E:... ) while Windows Explorer has them correct. The malfunctioning drive now makes a funny Beeping/Buzzing sound after trying to read a Data disc or a DVD for a little while.

I was pretty spun when it happened, but I've since become resigned. I still can do everything I need to on my PC, and though the idea of having to replace the drive due to a 2 second firmware flash that was specific to my drive is a bit extreme... Who knows? I had hoped to add a tiny bit more functionality and compatibility to the old Samsung, but wound up hamstringing it. (It could be a lot worse. I could have ruined it... or even worse my +RW) If anyone knows anything useful....

Hi JahSun, Sorry I cannot help you directly but you can try going to CD Freaks.com and head over to the firmware forum. You may get some help there.
