dBpoweramp is causing Explore.exe issues. (2024-02-01 Windows)

I will start the control center, go into CD ripping, rip the CD, exit the CD ripping, exit the control center, and then explore is locked up. The rip is good.

If the Control Center is still running, I can click on folders without any issue. The problem only arises when I close the Control Center.

Explore is locking up then restarts.

Restart computer, start CD Ripper through direct icon and not control centre, I do not see how that program can lockup explorer if not changing any advanced shell settings.

Ok.

After ripping the CD, I removed it and closed the tray, which triggered an Explorer error.

This is likely nothing to do with dbpoweramp, rather the process of inserting and removing audio cds is upsetting your explorer.

I have another ripping program and it doesn't have the Explorer issue.

On a side note... Active Providers don't keep CD-ISRC and CD-UPC settings after a restart the setting is lost.

Something is stopping dBpoweramp from writing to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Illustrate\dBpoweramp\C DRipper\Profiles\(default)

in the registry, try starting your machine in Safe mode with Networking, it might fix the explorer issue.

Hi, I was getting rip errors a few months ago on Windows 11 then I saw that there was a notification that the Windows Defender Ransomware Protsction in which I'd enabled Controlled Folder access was breaking this. Once I opened the notification then allowed DBPoweramp to write to these folders (allow application I think was the wording), I no longer got the error and could rip. I saw this behavior with other media related softwares so you may have to do this for a few applications. No guarantees but worth a shot.

I did the safe mode and nothing changed it still forgot the setting and in normal mode, it did the same.

You must have some security setting which is blocking dBpoweramp from writing to the registry.

I ran CDGrab in administrator mode and it had no effect.

That's odd only one program is causing this.

The code which changes and saves that item, it has not changed in 10 years...try a different computer as a test if you can.

I deleted the old one and created a new started fresh and the same thing happened.

Oh well...
