    open source liscencing

is there a place to read up on how it works? it's just caught my attention becasue the guy who is the developer of the closed source incursio review system is going to make it open source soon.

but what will that really mean? as far as i know he will still charge for a liscence and updates per year etc....

but i guess the open source will have conditions?

well for one you can see all the code, sometimes even write patches for the bugs and send them to the author instead of waiting ... don't know about the licencing though...

yes, but i guess i meant what does it mean from a developer owner's point of view. and what would be some rreasons why it would be done this way.

well it is like this ... everyone can see the code, and as I mentioned, experienced users can fix bugs by themselves (or even add new features) then send to the developer, who can then add this to the new version... so the software advances much faster (or anyway should...).

yes thinking about it more he might make a liscence like this vbulletin forum software. all code is visible and you can hack it to your hearts content as long as you don't redistribute it.
