    Sacd

Can I import a sacd/hi-res cd. Is it worth trying this for some better sound quality?

Only certain hacked old Playstations can read the SACD layer. Nothing else can.

      Not true, Spoon.
Your player must support the the specialized processing, though. My Pioneer Elite UPD-LX500 plays DTS, DVD-Audio and SACD without a problem.

I'm guessing my blu-ray burner wouldn't be able to read the discs properly; but I haven't tried. I do, however, have a number of digital DTS files I can play from my NAS.

Players can read SACD, but no CD or DVD drive on the PC can.

Just to expand on this, many hardware units now let you cheaply and easily convert the SACD layer of a disc to lossless digital files. I have an $80AUD pioneer (bdp-160) which does the task without breaking a sweat. There are many other mediatek based players that will do the same thing. OPPO 95 and 105 are also very nice options :-)
