Re: 'SAVE' on PC vs. External-HD (help?)
Hi,
My 30GB of FLAC files are now stored in 3 places: on a Dell external HD, a SanDisk SD card, and now also on the 1TB hard-drive of my laptop. Foobar is now configured so as to read all music files from the latter (which saves me having to have an external storage device connected).
Cheers,
Paul

Gary, At the moment, I am storing all FLACs on: Dell (1TB) external-HD; SanDisk (200GB) MicroSD-card; and the 'C' drive (1TB) of my PC home laptop. Thanks.Leave a comment:

Re: 'SAVE' on PC vs. External-HD (help?)
Gary, Same results for both storage devices within PerfectTUNES scan:I wouldn't wait until the end. After a day of ripping, I move my files to new location (external drive). There are built in mechanisms in windows to make sure copying (drag and drop) is error free. But as a check, after copying files, I run PERFECTTUNES on my destination music folder. If there was an error (like corrupted file or missing track on AR verified album), it will tell you this.

OK, thanks. I have added a second destination folder to PERFECTTUNES (ie. to the micro SD card).I wouldn't wait until the end. edit: and do yourself a big favor and buy a 1TB USB 3.0 drive to also use for backup. Don't rely on just those SD cards.
I already have a Western Digital 1TB mains-powered external HD. It has been very good. If I am to buy something extra for back-up, then it would probably be an identical model. Cheers.Leave a comment:

The reason I ask is because (I have been warned) that sometimes when drag&dropping large amounts of GB, or multiple folders-within-folders, the copies can become corrupt (or inexact). Which makes me think it would be wisest to avoid waiting until the whole shebang of 500 x CD are ripped, and trying to perform the copy in a single hit. Thanks, Paul

Gary, Well they are very small and I keep dropping it! If it fell on the carpet it would be difficult to find; and could easily end up in the belly of your hoover! PaulLeave a comment:

Re: 'SAVE' on PC vs. External-HD (help?)
no experience with SD cards. But if that's my backup, I'd have more than one. (which is true for my own USB drive backups as well). I'm paranoid about backups, because I don't want to re-rip 7000+ CDs.Leave a comment:

Re: 'SAVE' on PC vs. External-HD (help?)
Hi, well I am backing up everything on a SanDisk micro-SD card (for the Sony Walkman when it's returned). Don't know how reliable these are though? PaulNo backup is not good. As they say, it's not a matter of *if* a hard-drive will fail, but when. After you've ripped a few hundred CDs and dealt with making your tags and art perfect, you'll be VERY unhappy to see that work disappear. External USB drives are dirt cheap. Seems like I can even get 4TB USB drives from local big box store for < $100.Leave a comment:

Lol, I am age fifty next year!
I forgot about leaving headroom. Someone warned me of that a couple of years ago.Leave a comment:

Re: 'SAVE' on PC vs. External-HD (help?)
So I'd go with 1TB external drive. Plenty of space (and also, not typically good to fill up a drive to its max capacity...so some headroom is good).
p.s. You're not dead yet, so you might have 2,000 CDs before you know it.

Yes, you are correct. I have ripped about 25 CDs now which amounts to slightly north of 10GB.Leave a comment:
