    let's say the average single CD ends up as about 400-500MB ripped to FLAC, with artwork, etc. in the folder. So 1,000 CDs will need about 500,000MB, which is 488GB. So you could likely get 2,000 albums on a 1TB disk.

    No backup is not good. As they say, it's not a matter of *if* a hard-drive will fail, but when. After you've ripped a few hundred CDs and dealt with making your tags and art perfect, you'll be VERY unhappy to see that work disappear. External USB drives are dirt cheap. Seems like I can even get 4TB USB drives from local big box store for < $100.

    Hi,

    I have d/l the TRIAL of PerfectTUNES and dBpa today onto my home PC. And connected the Dell external-HD. It is ripping better than my work PC but I don't think I have properly configured the string/pathway between the two devices. It is not always placing saved items where I would like.

    Paul

    JH, I am thinking of having dBpa on a second laptop. I am in comms with Mr Spoon about the best way to go about it. If I do, then I will have an alternative drive to rip from. Cheers

    And don't forget about the need for backups. I suggest at least 2, stored in at least 2 different locations. I have 9 copies of my music. 5 are on servers that are at least sometimes used. 4 are pure backups that are not connected to anything except when updating. And these are all at 3 different physical locations. Only a nuclear attack in the southeast United States would wipe out everything. &*55357;&*56883;

    Only if I were to quit buying CDs and digital files.

    You really should look into getting another optical disk drive or two. It seems to me like you're having a far greater number of re-rip events than you should.

    Hi JH - I would be getting through them a lot quicker if it was not having rip so many of them by frames!

    So would you say you might have about a TB if you were to rip everything else? Cheers.

    Come on, Paul, get crackin'! (Something I'm certain a lot of dBpa users can say to me!)
