Recommended SATA Controllers

I have recently added a new HDD to my system and have run out of SATA ports.

Are there any recommended PCIe SATA controllers? What chipsets are good and which ones should I watch out for? One last question, is it preferable to attach the optical drive to the motherboards SATA port?
