....DAP still works well even though it is no longer supported or being developed.
Are you running ver R11.5?
I know it works perfectly. I was simply wondering if Spoon had in mind to reactivate the project in the future...because it would be superior to known players people usually get stuck with. I mean...take for example DMC (or cd ripper). Is WMP or Quick Time better maybe?....I don't think so. But then again he answered my question with his next post...
I'm running R14.3.

Maybe. iTunes is such a "giant" only because it has iTunes store...and that's it. Without iTunes store is simply just an ordinary player with restricted capabilities...Apple team focus only on App Store and does little as far as the player itself. (my opinion of course)
I haven't researched any stats on music players so i don't know. they are somewhat a thing of the past simply because of what mobile phones are today. i mean a mobile/cell phone is rarely used to make phone calls anymore lol.
but there are still plenty of other music players out there like winamp, jriver, windows media player, those 3 alone are extremly good players with video. DAP never made it to video sadly. oh and media monkey and avsforyou products are good too.
Spoon had to go where the bread and butter is and sadly thats just not in a music player. But DAP and DMC were magic together
dAP was ahead of its time by many years (the code has not been touched in over 10 years), collections, ratings, smart playlists, etc have all become standard requirements these days, but back then people were mainly happy with a player where you double click a file and it plays (Winamp)

I think they are not (a thing of the past). Almost everyone has a smartphone today. But who ever uses it as a music player...? OK....you can play a couple of tunes while you're on the plane but that is not their main feature. I agree that a cell phone is rarely used to make phone calls but it is not used to listen to music either. Their main feature is to communicate (even using many apps like facebook, twitter etc and not voice). I mean, ipod is the most popular gadget globaly, not iphone for example. Personally I never use it to listen to music even though is filled up with GBs of music. But then again with ipod you can listen only through earphones. Real audiophiles the least they would do would be to go home and plug the ipod into some hi-end home stereo or home cinema. What I want to say is, even today's cell phones still are for communicating only..and they are also music toys. There is no comparison between an iphone or ipod for example and a home stereo. And that is where a real good player is needed, been a hardware or...software.

They are good. But I wouldn't change DMC (or ripper) for WMP! They are good music players and libraries but as rippers and converters are inferior. (my opinion)

DAP/DMC combined were awesome. Imagine what it would happen if you had DAP/DMC together with a real good library structure and online database support....I mean iTunes has iTunes store, but there are many "orphan" web databases and music marketplaces out there way better than iTunes store.... (that have no player support like iTunes store has...). I guess all of them would like that computer users had a music player linked directly to them on their desktop...

I agree. But everyone would like to have in today's players the dbpoweramp capabilities... 'cause what's the use of having smart playlists and ratings if you don't have the formats you like...?
I think your missing the point on todays music and the way it's played. And indeed more and more people now us their cell phones as a music player and often complain about lack of space to load up all their tracks. In fact Nokia has taken it an extra step too now with introducing FREE music stream to their new Nokia lumia windpows phone range which you can also select the mixes and creat mixes for tracks that you want to listen too.
and case in point as spoon said "click and play" is how the majority of people play and listen to music. and thats why cell phones are handy to be used everyday to play music.
even winamp has made an android music player app for cell phones http://www.winamp.com/android which also works with itunes.
now thats something spoon could make is an app for android and windows phone and take advantage of this one click itunes library import
The only way we would see the return and development of DAP/DMC is if someone volunteered to do it. But even i can see how it may not bring in any extra income or even more people to DMC in this age of "click and play"

Maybe you're right after all... But what happens when you're at home..? Would you still use your cell phone if you had the option of a really good software and really good hardware...?

"click and play"... OK I agree. But someone or something has to convert this music if you want to listen through a different source. And different source may require different software. I personally don't like the idea of 128 kbps aac or 128 kbps mp3 playing through my home stereo.

Totally agree! Could be a real success!

You never know... People sometimes like to have some sort of "power" over the music they listen to and not taking things for granted. To have the flexibility to transform, to convert the music in order to be able to listen through different players. DAP/DMC could give you this kind of power with a click...or two.

I totally agree. DAP/DMC and most importantly was MMC which could be skinned as well always had the power to do everything.
And it created a skinning community where people got involved and enjoyed the music player itself.
If i had my way i would see the return and development of the above. That was the grass roots of dbpoweramp.
Unfortunanalty I think the majority out there are not audiophiles and even if an attempt to get interested would see that interest wane quickly as they move onto the next thing.
What was once very popular is now a niche specialist area i guess for want of a better way to put it.
If Dap/MMC was to be brought back to life i have no doubt it would bring in another swell of people and enthusiasm as it creates conversation and forms bonds and friendships amongst people all around the world.
But Spoon is only one person developing this software and unless he brings in other developers to help develop and join dap and MMC to work with his current software it just can't happen :(
Craze created another skin only 12 months ago. so there are still some old timers and enthusiast here but it has no suppoort anymore as such from Spoon because those projects are no longer part of the dbpoweramp range.

....or maybe "Spoon Player"....SAP instead of DAP.... :komisch12
Well i think your onto something there. I do like the name pheonix and it would be appropiate by definition for sure :komisch12
