automatically editing id-tags?

I right-click on a file.
I click edit ID-tag.
I edit the ID-tag.
I click OK.
I go back into the ID-tag, and it's like I did nothing at all. All of the old information is still there, and everything I put in is gone.
I don't get it.

What type of audio file and tag type and version? is used?

Just a quick thought in case it's as trivially simple as this - try clicking "refresh" in Windows Explorer....
