Set-up cheat sheet for newbies

Here is my cheat sheet for dbpoweramp r13 reference. Please comment and/or suggest changes. I will update it with the configuration I end up using. I hope it will be of help to other new users.


I Project
• Rip cds at highest quality and flexibility with minimal tag cleanup
- All discs with no or few light scratches
- ~100 are mobile fidelity and dcc – likely not in accuraterip
• Rip to Wave (uncompressed) for archive, then
- Batch rip to flac (level 5) for stereo; using itunes as the player and library manager
- Batch rip to aac (256k) for ipod
• Drive: no-name, tsst ts-h653n
- C2: yes (according to options>cdrom>technical), but
-- Detect c2 support did not find it (disc was scratched, but I will try again with a worse one)
- Drive read cache: no
- Fua : no, (not a plextor)
- Htoa: no
• Computer: new hp 2.3ghz dual core with vista sp1


II AccurateRip set-up
• Followed instructions after install using popular cds with no scratches or dirt
• My offset: +6


III Options to choose (click on button with yellow & red cables)
• Ripping method: secure – then in secure settings, enable
- Ultra secure ripping
-- Change end after clean passes to 3
- C2 error pointers for error detection
-Write to file
-Add to information log
• Meta Data – in options, enable
- Write ID tags
-- Add remaining tags (from source to profile)
-- Track number without track count
-- Disc number without disk count
• CD rom, enable
- Eject after rip
- Prevent auto-run


IV Profile
• Create profile for each ripping framework
• Rip to: wave (no compression)
• If hidden track one appears, check to include (no meta data)
• Naming scheme


V Questions
1. Are above settings appropriate for discs with no scratches or overkill (change what)?
2. Wave or flac? Or wave, then flac?
3. Use htoa?
4. Use over-reading?
5. Is the default naming the best for use with itunes?
6. Project #2: rip friends’ cds, many with scratches – adjust above settings?
- What is an appropriate drive for ripping damaged discs which is readily available from mainstream online stores (no ebay)? I cannot locate a 230a for < $100.

2. FLAC than WAV, personally, just because a lot of dMC's optional tags aren't supported in WAV (including album art), so you keep them in the FLAC just lose them in the WAVs. (edit: nevermind, if you use r13 it can store all tags)
3. Depends on the drive, but I would if possible, yes.
4. Check it, dMC will tell you if you drive doesn't support it in the secure ripping logs.
5. I change the default naming, but my naming scheme seems normal to me but weird to others

-. I managed to snag a plextor 230a off of ebay for cheap (~$50), but the place I got it from has since ran out of them. Try the shopping search on Google, but make sure you check for reviews of the stores before you buy.

R13 can store every id3 tag in wave now (it uss an id3v2.3 chunk).
