Missing Sound File

For some reason, unknown to me, I have no sound at all on my pc. How do I get the sound back? The cost of the software to install is too much for me.

Check your Windows Services (Start --> Run --> services.msc) to make sure the "Windows Audio" service is set to automatic and started. Also make sure your sound is not simply muted.
