mp3 quality using dMc

Hi,

I love dbPowerAmp. I know I can convert and give custom settings to mp3 files.
I use LAME to convert to mp3 files.

My question is, I have couple of 80kbps mp3 stereo files, If I convert them to 128kbps, stereo or joint stereo, would it improve quality or its not possible to have better quality by this method.

Please advise if there are other options that can be used.
