    Newbie needs help

    Hi Guys

When I rip an audio mix CD to my hard drive in Ogg Vorbis format it places the songs in alphabetical order, instead of the order that they are on in the CD. How can I rectify this?

Thanks in advance for your help

The order of display in a folder isn't important. Files get stored in whatever available space there is, all over the hard drive, the space being managed by Windows - you cannot force a particular spot. But they will be displayed according to how you sort the folder by clicking on the top of the displayed column. Make sure you select Details in View, rather than just list. You can also add more columns of information to the displayed view - it's an option in View again.

If you sort the folder by name, then it's alphabetical either ascending or descending. I fyou sort by date of creation or last modification then it's that. Or by size. Or by type of file. Or by any of the coumns being dislayed. This is all normal Windows functioning.

Maybe you wanted to enusre that the original track number order is preserved. Then you should have made the track number a part of the file name, at the start of the file name, so alphabetical sorting can be applied and they'll end up showing in the order you want them to.

This also has nothing to do with whether they are OGG or any other format.

Make sure you've tagged each Ogg Vorbis output file in an organized manner. Like

      01 - [artist] - [album] - [title]
      02 - [artist] - [album] - [title]
      03 - [artist] - [album] - [title]
      04 - [artist] - [album] - [title]
      05 - [artist] - [album] - [title]

      ...and so on.

      Good luck! -neil
