Hello...

As you can see by my username, I'm not terribly technical, so I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me??

I've been using DbpowerAMP for some time to convert my CD's into MP3 format. I've come to use it today and found that I needed to register (& pay) - not a problem, but now it doesn't seem to be working properly....

Since installation, all the albums it's converting are speeded up and high pitched, despite me not changing the settings at all. This is now also the case when I simply listen to CD's through Windows Media Player.

I'm sorry if this is a dead easy question, if it's in the wrong section of the forum, or been asked/answered before (I did do a quick search but found nothing) - but can someone please help me??

No, your question is fine here, since you need support for a problem you have in dMC (dBpowerAMP Music Converter).

So you had been happily converting CDs to mp3, then you registered. Since installing the registered version, your mp3s are higher-pitched and sped-up, right? Double-check your settings for mp3 and make sure that the frequency is still set for "44100 Hz" and that the other settings are also what you want. In fact, could you tell us your settings?

Also, could you go to dMC Configuration (Start Menu --> Programs --> dBpowerAMP Music Converter --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration) and click "Copy to Clipboard" and paste that too?

I had this problem before. Reinstallation and a reboot helped my problem. Try that, but look at Lt. Data's response too because his solution is most likely better than mine.

Hi LtData, thanks for the quick reply.

It's now emerging (from my other half) that he went to a website the other day, and the voices sounded "strange" then. With this in mind, I've gone to a radio website (Live365.com) and listened on there, the same thing's happening. The upshot being that I now don't think it was anything to do with the installation of dbpowerAMP.

Also, he ran off an audio CD yesterday (before he realised about the problem) and, despite nothing sounding right on the computer, it's playing ok on his van CD player.

So (and I'm aware that I am now in the wrong section - sorry!), I don't suppose anyone would know how to assist me with what the problem might be now, could they?

If you do still want me to post the settings, let me know, but I feel sure that it's not connected to the instal now.

Go ahead and post your settings. Your CD burner could have re-adjusted the frequency of your mp3 files (if that was the issue) during the burning process.
The radio thing is strange and it does suggest that perhaps you have a playback problem. You could try dBpowerAMP Audio Player (dAP) to see if it will play these funny sounding mp3 files. I would recommend that you try the current beta version of dAP available for download here:

Assuming your problem is strictly with playback suggests that your funny sounding mp3 files may be in non-standard settings, so look at the file tag information you have for some of these files to check out frequency, bitrate and channel settings.

If you have assured yourself that your mp3 settings are fairly standard (frequency of 44.1 kHz, bitrate of 128 kbs or higher, stereo or joint stereo), then Neil's suggestion of an uninstallation/reinstallation is well worth trying.

Since playback of an Internet radio station was also sped up, that seems to point that the problem is not with dMC at all but with some setting relating to your soundcard. On that note, I'll move this thread to "Spoon's Forum" or the Off-Topic forum.

sounds like a directshow related problem to me

start, run, "dxdiag"
check for any problems (that thing is pretty worthless, so i doubt it will come up with anything)
my guess is that you installed/'updated' something (like wmp) and it screwed everything up

you can always use a real audio player, like winamp or foobar2000

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone - someone sorted it for me. Apparantely I needed to update the drivers for the chipset (????).

Just wanted to say thank you for all your assistance anyway, especially as I didn't explain myself very well!
