Error Message while converting .ram into mp3

I am using DBPowerAMP Music converter to convert my .ram file into mp3 so that I can burn it into CD. I am getting an error message saying 'the file could not be opened.'

How do I get this to work?
    Please Help.

      2) the thread on Real Media files at http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthread.php?t=6194

When I followed the instruction here to change .ram to .rm, and then convert, it did not work. On DMC I do not get .rm as a file type to select to convert, so my file that I chaged to .rm does not show up.

If you have any other solution, please let me know.
      I am kind of desperate.

After Configuration, I don't see file associaltion. I only have dMC configuration and dMC audio CD configuration.

oh, perhaps this is a codec install issue by the looks of it?

                  Prad-
The thread you refer to deals only with renaming the file extension of a downloaded streaming RealAudio file from .ram to .ra or .rm as you save the file. There is no conversion involved. So are you saying you cannot rename the extension or are you saying you cannot convert the file with the renamed extension?

If you have what you need, look at the file properties. If the file size is small (Kb rather than Mb) you have a streaming metafile and you will have to see whether you can download and save the actual audio file that is being streamed. If you can but you still cannot convert, then the file may also be copy-protected and your best bet will be to record the file from the soundcard as you play it. This will also be true if you cannot download the streaming file.

If you do have a legitimate audio file (judging from your file size), try opening up dMC Configuration and checking to see whether this indicates that you are able to read RealAudio files. If you do not, the issue would be a codec installation issue. You need the RealAudio decoder codec from Codec Central. You also need RealPlayer v. 8. or RealAlternative (as specified in the instructions at Codec Central).

If your dMC Configuration shows you can read RealAudio files, then try to test convert the file (in the dMC window where you would select mp3 as your format select Test Conversion (No Write). If this does not work, it strongly suggests that dMC cannot read the file. If the file will test convert, try converting your file first to wav and then to mp3.

Let us know how you make out.
                  Best wishes,
                  Bill Mikkelsen
