I've ripped my CD collection (actually about 3.500 CDs) twice: once with iTunes (beginnings of this millennium) to mp3 and a second time with dBpa to flac (about 8 years ago). The flac files are stored on 4 NAS's (in two residences each with an online and an offline NAS) and 1 mobile HDD (for transport). On top there exist several mp3 copies (car hifi system, PC in my bureau, libreelec servers).
