Frequent failure to write to disk.

    Hi,
I am getting frequent failures: "device Error: Could not write to Disk (LBA: 43161 Length:0) Invalid Field in CDB. - 0x052400"

I trying to re-create a disk from FLAC files, compressed to level 8, which were created with dbPoweramp.

Some of my cd's rip ok, but about 80% don't. For the problem cds, the problem is hard on. ie. a CD will either consistently work or fail. I retried the failing cds right down to the slowest burn speed, but they seem to fail at the same track each time.

I can play the failing Flac files successfully with Winamp, or my Sonos system.

I create duplicate cds, from the base cds, successfully using RecordNow from Sonic, using the same cd/dvd writer.

I have tried various media brands, but this doesn't alleviate the problem.

The dbPoweramp Extraction Logs for the affected cds don't indicate any error on the failing tracks.

Is there anything I can do? Thanks.

The problem is likely an interaction between CD Writer and the blank media, rather than the files you are using.

Re: Frequent failure to write to disk.

Is that likely given the fact the if a cd is to fail, then it fails writing the same track each time, each time on a fresh disk, as the earlier one has been trashed?

I just tried another. Exactly the same error message, at the same place (track 3) "(LBA: 43161 Length:0) Invalid Field in CDB. - 0x052400"

I don't have an alternate brand of media here at the moment, but I have just used this one (Verbatim CD-R 52X) to create a stack of cd's containing some of my photographs. I used the same computer and cd writer; all AOK. Also I can use this cd writer & media brand combination to create a duplicate cd from the original cd the dbPoweramp ripped the flac files from.

From another thread in this newsgroup:

I have no issue with this position. I brought dbPoweramp for it's ripping features, and am happy with the product.

However I haven't got a solution allowing me to convert some of my ripped FLAC files back to standard audio cd, as CD Writer gives me an 80% failure rate.

Can somebody recommend me an alternative product that performs better for FLAC => cda conversion with output to CD?

I tried to get better success, with CD Writer, using a different PC. This time one running Vista, but using the same flac files created by dBpoweramp. . ... Still no success. Your explanation is looking even more thin.

This time the job completes without reported disk error, but it doesn't appear to close the disk, as a cd writer can see no files, and a PC sees the disk as empty (although not exactly empty as it is no longer able to accept new files).

I think I saw elsewhere that this is not your code, so you can't fix it. Pity. I am a big fan of the rest of dbPoweramp. If my experience is common it can't be doing your reputation much good.

For what it is worth I have found a workaround. dBpoweramp CD Writer converts the chosen files to .wav, and outputs them to a directory ( in XP it is within \Documents and settings\<<My profile name>>\Application Data\dBpoweramp\\dBpoweramp-CDWriterTmp\)

Using the utility software which came bundled with my cd drive (Sonic), I used it's facility to create an audio CD from the converted .wav files, and it created a properly functioning audio cd. .... Note that this was created using the same blank media and cd drive combination whose incompatibly you claim is the cause of my, and other peoples', problem with dBpoweramp CD Writer. ... I don't think so.

Same problem here. Same tack WAV format 3 differnent media PLUS the added benefit that after the failure windows explorer on W7 is useless.
However, CD Writer was going to be bonus so I'll find another way as I can live without CD Writer but the "windows explorer" interaction is a hard system failure.

I have the same issue and was told it was my problem with hardware (both my CD burners were having the same issue). I bought ImTOO CD burner and I works great. I was having to use Windows Media Players burner, but it wasn't very user friendly until I got the ImToo one. I still miss the CDWriter one, but....

                    Same here....
Definitely some software here that is 'not ready for prime time'.....
With the increase in digital downloads of .flac files, let's hope a better product shows up......

My solution so far: Convert .flac to .wav using dB (after first messing with the track numbering with mp3tag editor) and then use Nero Essentials to burn the Audio CD.

                    Very 'klunky' workaround.....
