No Cd Writers Found

According to the help file the message 'No Cd Writers Found' can result from an unsupported CDR drive. I can't find anything about networked drives. My CD writing drive is on a separate computer and I access it through a network card. When I try to burn a CD I get the above message. Is this possibly because it isn't a local drive? I had the same problem when trying to use Windows Media Player to write a CD. Is there a fix?
