Overwriting Original files

I would like to batch code many wav files to 320 mp3, but so far, when I've experimented, the original WAV files are preserved (actually in the same album folder as the newly converted mp3 files), so all the album files are growing like mad.
Is there a way of file ABCD.mp3 overwriting ABCD.wav? (I appreciate it might be a safety thing, but before conversion, I move all my wav files somewhere safe.)
