    Ripping Machine Config

I’ve finally got around to specing out my new ripping tower
And before I start ordering parts and building I seek the collective wisdom
of the forum. I plan to run 8 drives using Batch Ripper but am
prepared to drop down to six if need be.
The plan is to rip to outboard USB 3 drives
Mostly MP3 but possibly to Flac also
if I can do it simultaneously.
So gents, what do you think of this system?
Will it work as I invision?
All suggestions and insight are most welcome
    Thanx to all in advance

    Re: Ripping Machine Config

HI, heres my twopenneths worth, it may be advisable to check whether you can run just four cd drives with your proposed set up as the CPU has four cores and four threads, making theoretical eight core unit , you will need two cores for each cd drive, one to process the data off the disc, another one to process the data to what ever format you decide upon, ie mp3 or FLAC. Also make sure that you have a descent anti virus programme installed as I found alot of malicious stuff when looking for album art etc. I hope that this helps.

What throughput are you looking to achieve? How will you be loading the drives? I achieved 72 discs per hour on a 4 drive on an HP Proliant ML115 with a pretty slow quad core amd processor and only 2GB of RAM by hand. This was ripping to FLAC, don't waste time with mp3. It was a full time job taking CDs out of cases, cleaning them and then putting them back. I doubt you could service more than 6 drives by hand. As it happens sometimes all CDs finish very close to each other and you end up with down time anyway.
