Add User Tags to MP3 Files?

Since I can't find a Help button on My Music Collection, any any link to the help files on the main dbpoweramp home page, I'm going to post the query here.

Is there a way to add a user tag to MP3 files and have it display in MMC and export?

I want to add a tag called: Peak Its purpose is to contain the peak position, and date of that peak, from the Billboard charts. For example, it could have 1988/01/16 - 09, meaning that on the Billboard chart date Jan 16, 1988, the song peaked at the 9th position. Since MMC is a track database, it would be from the singles chart. Album peaks can't be tracked very well.

Anyway, is there a way to do this?

    Thanks.

What comments field? Do an Edit Tag on any entry and no such field appears.

I should have added... By this response I should assume that adding user defined fields is pretty much not an option?

There is a Comment field in the ID tags.

Maybe your ID tag creation method isn't the same as mine. I have:
          AAC
          Tag Creation: Ape2
          Write ID3v2 Unicode: No
          Write ID3v2 Version: v2.3

          Mp3
          Tag Creation: Smart Ape2 & ID3v1
          Write ID3v1 Version: v1.1
          ID3v1 UTF8 Read: Yes
          ID3v1 UTF8 Write: Yes
          Write ID3v2 Unicode: Yes
          Write ID3v2 Version: v2.3

          Windows Media Audio
          Write Track Number as: WM/TrackNumber

My editing is done within My Music Collection. I have no idea how/where you got the values inside the quote. I also don't see how you attached the image, since there doesn't appear to be an option for doing such while replying to your post, so I'll have to URL to the two images I have:

The first image shows the main editing GUI that comes up. It is the only place where editing can take place. No comments field. The 2nd image shows the details behind the next tab. The layout is definately nothing like what you have. What version of the software are you using? I am using release 3 beta 6.

Even if a different tool edited the ID tags, MMC doesn't have the facility for displaying a comments field.

Her values from inside the quote came from the last tab in dMC Configuration (Start --> Programs --> dBpowerAMP Music Converter --> Configuration --> dMC Configuration).
As for the images, only moderators are allowed to attach images.

                OK, here are my values:

                Mp3Tag Creation: Smart Ape2 & ID3v1
                Write ID3v1 Version: v1.1
                ID3v1 UTF8 Read: Yes
                ID3v1 UTF8 Write: No
                Write ID3v2 Unicode: No
                Write ID3v2 Version: v2.3
Changing the two "No"s to "Yes" doesn't make a difference as far as now allowing comments (never expected that it would).

So, what is different between what I am running and what Christina is running?

MMC can only display the columns it lists, no custom coloumns.

I gather that. But, that doesn't answer the current query about the "Comments" tag that is supposidly there, which I don't see and two posters mention in their responses.

It's from Edit ID Tag - an option that appears by right clicking an audio file from Windows Explorer.

edit tag only works with power pack activated.
                        just mentioning

I have PowerPack and sure enough it is there, as Christina points out.

That is the good news. The bad news is that MMC totally ignores the comment tag. MMC needs to be able to deal with that tag, otherwise it is a useless tag. I went into the Export function of MMC and the Comment tag is not listed as one of the items that can be exported.

So, what does this mean? In a nutshell, I am screwed. I can't do what I would like.

Spoon: any chance of getting MMC to support the Comment field?

I know this was a question for Spoon but as far as I know there is no room for expanding the mmc file format without loosing support for the old files. So until a new version with totally new mmc I am afraid not. this would be a big step and probably we would also have to have a mmc 'old->new' converter.

I also added this as a wishlist request.
