    Fast-Forwarding Through Files

I recently bought the player, converter, writer package. The converter and writer seem to be working fine, but the player will not function properly.

When started, no music is heard and the player simply skips through all of my song titles...one per second or faster. What gives? I have several thousand songs on my computer to play...is the player overloaded?

    Please assist.

    Peace,
    Brett

Either the files in the music collection have been moved somewhere else (and music collection doesn't know about it), or you have gapless (or crossfade on), and your soundcard cannot play 2 streams at once.

Could it be anything else? My files haven't moved and I had neither crossfade nor gapless checked.

        Re: Fast-Forwarding Through Files

I assume you went through the dAP Options menu to check on the gapless and cross fade issues (I believe these are in the Multi-player section of the Options menu).
Another thing you can do is to go to the Options menu and check your Amp settings. It will either be set to Wave Out or DirectX. Whichever it is set to, switch to the other.
If that does not work I would recommend that you run the routine Spoon has here (in the FAQ section for dAP):
        A. Some setting has changed that does not agree with your computer, run this to refresh dAP to the factory install setting: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/bin/dAPResetAll.exe

Please keep us posted on how you make out.

        Best wishes,
        Bill

Bill, you're my hero. It was as simple as switching the AMP setting as you instructed. I'm looking forward to giving this a spin!

          Peace,

Re: Fast-Forwarding Through Files (CD won't play)

I am experiencing more or less the same problem, and have tried all of the solutions mentioned in the thread, including a couple of reinstalls, but still no go. I have two drives, one a CD-R on a SCSI interface, and the other, a CD-RW drive on an EIDE intfc. dAP correctly downloaded from freedb the track list of a CD placed in the first one, but I can't get it to play it, and I only get a fast scroll through the track names when I insist on clicking the 'Play' button.

'Play Audio CD' function can't seem to make up its mind where to look for an Audio Cd, sometimes it gives back a message 'No Audio CD tracks found to play!', in spite of a CD being there, just waiting to be played.

After some serious clicking all over the place, dAP suddenly played a CD that was in the second drive, but even if it correctly recognized the title, it wasn't able to donload the track names from freedb. After clearing the playlists and trying to get it to play again, dAP has refused to do anything beyond saying 'Not Playing'.

              Babaloo-
Does this problem ONLY occur with cd's or do you also have a problem with playing files
              already on your computer?
Have you tried the latest beta version of dAP (dbpowerAMP Audio Player) from the Beta section of the forum?
If you go My Computer, right-click on either of your cd drives (with a cd in them), select Explore, right-click on a track and select Play in dAP (without trying to access track names from Freedb) will selected tracks play?
I assume you have checked to make sure that your cd's will play in other programs (just to help confirm its a dAP problem and not a system issue).
I also assume that you do not have an older version of Windows, or that if you did, you also installed any additional support files that were needed.

You may want to check the Support tab at the top of this page to look at suggestions for addressing common support issues for dAP and also for Audio CD Input (since this looks like it could be the source of your problem).

Keep us posted on what you find out.

              Best wishes,
              Bill

                Yes, other files play OK.

Have you tried the latest beta version of dAP (dbpowerAMP Audio Player) from the Beta section of the forum?

Yes, problem is the same with both Beta and the last release.

If you go My Computer, right-click on either of your cd drives (with a cd in them), select Explore, right-click on a track and select Play in dAP (without trying to access track names from Freedb) will selected tracks play?

No. Tracks even show correct id's in dAP (evidencing an access to freedb), but don't play.

I assume you have checked to make sure that your cd's will play in other programs (just to help confirm its a dAP problem and not a system issue).

Yes, they play correctly with other programs like CDMax, CoolCD and WinAmp.

I also assume that you do not have an older version of Windows, or that if you did, you also installed any additional support files that were needed.

                WinXP Pro + SP2.

You may want to check the Support tab at the top of this page to look at suggestions for addressing common support issues for dAP and also for Audio CD Input (since this looks like it could be the source of your problem).

Did that. Only thing that seems to apply is the Autoplay option as detailed in the section for dMC Audio CD Input, which I had set to OFF. Turned it ON for testing, but results are the same.

                Best wishes,

That I need, this one seems to be a tough one!!!

Try opening Audio CD Configuration (Start>All Programs>dBpowerAMP Music Converter>Configuration>dMC Audio CD Configuration). What is CD Communication set to? If it is set to ASPI or SCSI try switching to Windows Internal (Limited). Does that help? (If not please change back to your original setting).

Does this happen with all cd's or only certain ones?

Do you have dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC) installed? Do you have Power Pack?
If you have Power Pack and you open the cd in Audio CD Input, can you preview a track from the cd in Audio CD Input?

If the CD does not show up in Audio CD Input, try clicking on the arrow next to the Options button. Click on Standard CD Emulation. Is Table of Cntents Detection checked or unchecked? Make a note of which and change the setting. Exit Audio CD Input, re-open Audio CD Input and see if that makes any difference?

Thank you for your detailed reply to my last post.
Good luck and keep us posted.

After some in-depth reading of the latest suggestions, I went and did me some serious clicking. The first CD drive on the list is on a SCSI controller, and the configurator had correctly determined that. I switched the settings, but nothing worked, until I tried changing the Command Set, which originally said 'MMC'. I put it at 'Read Standard (SI)', and lo and behold, it started working!!

Except the other drive, which is on an EIDE channel. It won't work no matter what setting I try, and when I change settings, they also affect the first drive. It seems that dbPowerAmp is not designed to handle several CD drives on different interfaces; maybe on a future release?

Does this happen with all cd's or only certain ones?

                    Every single one of them.

Do you have dBpowerAMP Music Converter (dMC) installed? Do you have Power Pack?

Yes. As a matter of fact, I'm going in thru Audio CD Input to change the configurations.

If you have Power Pack and you open the cd in Audio CD Input, can you preview a track from the cd in Audio CD Input?

Yes again, but only from the SCSI drive. The EIDE detects the CD and correctly shows the contents, but nothing else works, except for a series of systematic crashes.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Your invocations seem to be working. One of the drives is now exorcised, hopefully we can get the other one to work too.

Have you tried the "Windows Built-In (Limited)" instead of the SCSI pass-through? That should work on both drives.

But it is interesting that you cannot individually change the command set for each drive.

This may not fix your problem, but it fixed a fast forwarding problem for me.

I went to the device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled my audio device. It had a yellow warning icon on it.

Reinstalling didn't help. So I did a rollback.

That fixed it. I guess I downloaded a bad driver from Microsoft Update.
