    Can't **play** Sony's .OMG files in dAP2, but I can in Windows Media Player

    Hi,

    Note : this is not about "converting" .OMG files, it's only about **playing** them in your program dBpowerAMP Audio Player.

    Is there a way ? Since it's possible with Windows Media Player (WMP), then I was wondering ... After enjoying dMC for 6 months, I am now curious about replacing WMP with dAP.

    Thank you for your input!

    ---
    By the way, I went through the pile of posts about converting .OMG, .ATP or .OMA. Despite their faults, I really like to keep Sony .OMG files on my computer : their size is very small and they sound fine.

    They also play in Windows Media Player. Even though they are not "recognized", I can make a playlist with all of them (this was my poor-man's media library).

    If you install the 'DirectShow codec' from the beta section of this forum it might work (pay attention to configuring it to the extension).

      Tried it, but do I need a DirectShow Filter for .omg files ?

      Thanks for the quick reply.

      I think I am missing something, though ... I can now select .omg files in dAP2, but they don't play.

      I installed your "DirectShow Input Decoder" from the Beta forum. I added the .omg extension in the "Configure DirectShow Decoder" file, then re-ran config for dAP2.

      I'm confused by posts in these topics :
      beta test / DirectShow Input Decoder
      wishlist / Codec to convert from Audible Audio (.aa) / posts 32 and 34

      post 32 suceeded for .aa with the same steps as me. Others had to "Install DirectShow Filters" with other programs (graphedit, RealAltenative). Do I have to use these too or is dBpoweramp enough ?

      Well, you brought me half-way through ! (cheery laugh, no sarcasm intented)
      I'll keep in touch.

        If you can play the file in WMP, you should be able to play the files with nothing else. RealAlternative is just because there is not a DirectShow filter for Real on systems by default.

          Getting clearer, but doesn't work yet

          Hi and thanks again,

          This is great - the tiny dAP is all I need ! Getting more programs is a chore at 54 kbps. On the other hand, dAP still doesn't play my own .omg files.

          I wonder if WMP9 has access to something on my computer that dAP 2 doesn't.

          I have these codecs with dAP 2 : wav, mp3 Lame, wmp9, DirectShow Decoder, Update ID Tags, Tag from filenames, Arrange music.

          I also have WM Encoder 9.

          ---

          I have a feeling that you will have something Big if you can solve my question of playing omg files... (big popularity with everyone hating SonicStage and hopefully no legal trouble)

          ---
          I'm totally out of my element, but I found that info. I have no idea if it can be useful.

          The following table lists the WAVE formats reserved with Microsoft. These codes are used to uniquely identify audio formats, and are used in various legacy and current software development kits (SDKs), including MCI, Microsoft® Video for Windows, Microsoft DirectShow®, Microsoft DirectSound®, and Microsoft Windows Media® Format

          0x0270 WAVE_FORMAT_SONY_SCX
          0x0271 WAVE_FORMAT_SONY_SCY
          0x0272 WAVE_FORMAT_SONY_ATRAC3
          0x0273 WAVE_FORMAT_SONY_SPC

            They are wave types, if it has .omg it is not a wave file. WMP must decode it another way (other than directshow).

              Still interested and with new tidbits

              I just came back from Easter Vacations :D . I'm still interested to know if dAP can play ATRAC3 plus OMG files. I have subscribed to this topic.

              I went through the steps from above once more - it still doesn't work.

              --1-- A filter for .omg files ?
              I forgot I had installed "The Core Media Player 4.02" (for movies). I just found that it does play .omg files! Moreover, it has a tab called "filter properties". 4 items are in it, the only interesting being "OpenMG audio decrypt splitter". (note : this is exciting because .omg means OpenMG!) This filter is only in the "filter properties" tab if I play a .omg file.

              :teufel8: Is that filter related to your DirectShow Decoder ? I wonder if it's what The Core Media Player uses ...

              --2--
              I also found a file named Seamless.ax
              in Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\OpenMG\

              Its properties tab says :

              Version Info: 9.0.0.0
              Description: Seamless-Play Filter (Sample)
              Copyright : Copyright (C) 1992-2002 Microsoft Corporation

              Other Version info
              Active movie: filter dll
              Comment: DirectShow Sample
              Company: Microsoft Corporation
              Internal name: Seamless.ax
              OLESElfRegister: AM20
              Product Name: DirectX 9.0 Sample

              There is also a file named SeamlessManager.dll in the same directory.

              --3--
              Is everyone able to play .omg files in their Windows Media Player ? I could send a 240 kb file for testing. I also have a SonicStage2 CD.

              Finally, I won't leave you for The Core Media Player. :D

              Side Note : There are a lot of names for Sony music files, but there are all about the same thing. The music files I get with Sony's SonicStage2 are .omg files (.omg as in OpenMG). Sony call their compression methods Atrac3 and Atrac3plus.

                Re: Still interested and with new tidbits

                If it is core media player that suggests they are directx filters. Try installing the .ac3 or .ra (real audio) to see if the directshow is working in dbpoweramp.

                  Test results for DirectShow and .rm

                  Dear Spoon,

                  I followed your suggestion. I did not find any .ra files, but I heard somewhere that .rm are just the same (right?).

                  **dAP plays .rm files on my computer**
                  (with RealMedia Codecs 6.0.12.1059, RealMedia DirectShow Splitter and dAP DirectShow Decoder)

                  --
                  Here are the details, just in case. Sorry 'bout the long post...

                  I tried to play these samples

                  1- Without dAP's Real Audio Codec (I have not downloaded it anyways)
                  Without configuring dAP DirectShow Decoder
                  using right-click open in dAP
                  dAP skips to another file (that's ok)

                  2- configuring dAP DirectShow Decoder
                  configuring file associations for .ra and .rm
                  using right-click open in dAP
                  dAP skips to another file (that's ok)

                  3- Downloaded Real Alternative 1.34 (realalt134.exe)
                  Free-CODECS.COM, or just CODECS.COM - Download the latest codecs and tools, for free - daily updated!

                  installed RealMedia Codecs 6.0.12.1059, RealMedia DirectShow Splitter
                  did not install Media player Classic
                  Playing the .rm causes some errors in dAP. Don't worry, though.

                  4- Rebooted. Ta-daam! dAP plays the .rm fine

                  5- But it still doesn't play the .omg files (I tried it)...

                  6- Re-installing only the "RealMedia DirectShow Splitter",
                  not the "RealMedia Codecs 6.0.12.1059"
                  (uninstalling Real Alternative first and rebooting when needed)

                  dAP, WMP9 and Core Media Player can't play the .rm files

                  dAP's error:

                  ActiveMovie Window: amp.exe - Entry Point Not Found
                  The procedure entry point ogg_stream_clear could
                  not be located in the dynamic link library ogg.dll.

                  The Core media Player's error:
                  > TCMP's Core can not render the file : samp3.rm
                  > ClassFactory cannot supply requested class

                  --
                  For completeness, here is my dAP DirectShow Decoder config file

                  // Add supported DirectShow file type extensions, type only one extension per
                  // line (replace .xyz below), re-run 'dMC Configuration' after adding new, for example:
                  //
                  // .ac3
                  // .abc
                  //

                  .omg
                  .ra
                  .rm

                    Re: Test results for DirectShow and .rm

                    See the omg thread in the DRM section of this forum, apparently there is a hacked version of the filter that allows other programs in.
