    question on 24 bit wav

Was just over at winamp site and posted a msg about 5.1 channel sound.
I have a PCM WAV file, 6 channels, 24 bit, 44100 and it plays well under
dBpower player, Creative player and WMA. but Winamp only gives noise
    as output.

Anyway, the question: Other than the tag (which is only a file description),
how is it possible to tell if you are really getting 24 bits throughput?
(even DSP to 16 dither - from the name i'm assuming its reading 24 bits
but changing to 16 bit on output)????????

Interestingly enough, there is a thread at winamp discussing that creative
cannot play 24 bit as it claims which equals false advertising in my book.
There is also a partition with over 7000 signatures asking creative for
better support, etc, etc. I signed it.

    thanks,
    savagcl

There is no way finding which output bit count is being used in dAP, it should show something somehow though...will add it to a wish list.

      Thanks, Spoon.
I know the plate in front of you is full but this would help.
